ABOUT ROBOFUN WORKSHOPS SCHOOL PROGRAMS TRAINING CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT

Staff at Vision Education & Media have written scores of curricula for after-school programs as well as in-school programs. Lesson plans and curricula have been written for programs in Robotics, Digital Video, Digital Audio, Web Development, Game Development, Architecture, 3D Modeling and more.

Featured Curriculum:
The Fourth Grade Multi-Disciplinary LEGO Robotics Project
Industrial Revolution:
Past, Present, & Future Inventions

Part One: Research Past and Present Inventions Students research past inventions and examine the impact these innovations had on society. Historical and cultural connections may be expanded upon based on the teacher's discretion, and students are required to chart and present their findings.

Part Two: Learning the LEGO Mindstorms Education System
Learning LEGO Mindstorms is intended to give students the fundamentals about robotics and an introduction to the LEGO Mindstorms Education Kit and programming environment. All activities in this section prepare teachers and students for Parts Three and Four of this project by covering: the basics of robotics; writing basic programs; familiarity with the LEGO Mindstorms kit; and basic construction techniques.

Part Three: LEGO Mindstorms Project 1: Past or Present Invention
Students research and recreate a version of either 1) Windshield Wipers OR 2) Conveyor Belt with the LEGO Mindstorms Robotic Kit. Guiding research questions include: Why was it invented? What did it help solve? Did it improve our way of life? Classroom teachers may ideas for getting started with robotic creation, but ultimately groups of three, students will create their own versions and solutions for designing and creating the invention. Multiple solutions to the design challenge will be evident in the classroom.

Part Four: LEGO Mindstorms Project 2: Future Invention
The final part of the unit involves a student-designed invention (or prototype) for a real-world problem. Brainstorming sessions led by teachers facilitate potential problems and possible solutions to these problems that may be solved with an invention using the LEGO Mindstorms set. In the same small group of three, students will experience the full design process including researching, sketching, building, programming, and problem solving with respect to their unique invention.
